LC Women's Basketball to tip off season at ABAC

TIPOFF TIME CHANGE-  Game time has been pushed back to 6 p.m.

The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team is set to begin their regular season Friday (Nov. 8) on the road against the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions in the first ever meeting between the two schools.

The Matchup
The Panthers had the opportunity to see some competitive action with the very best last Thursday (Nov. 1) in an exhibition tilt against the Auburn Tigers. With a solid first look of how they stack up against top-level teams, they are more than ready to hit the ground running against the competition this season. LC comes into this matchup with a distinct advantage in terms of experience, bringing in a starting five of three seniors and two juniors in contrast to the Stallions' three freshman, one junior and sophomore.  

As for ABAC, an 0-2 start has put a slight damper on their momentum early this season. They enter into this contest with a .331 field goal percentage, going only 6/25 from three to start the season. With their first home game of the season on the docket, however, they will certainly be looking to better those numbers with the energy of the hometown crowd on their side.

Players to Watch
Zyhia Johnson and Amanda Mclendon will prove to be two key pieces for the Panthers on Friday as they look start the season 1-0. Johnson led the team in scoring last season with 383 points, good for 16.7 points per game. Mclendon was the team's most accurate shooter last season, going 97/187 from the floor with a field goal percentage of .519, in addition to a team best 201 rebounds.

The Stallions will look to their youth for production against LC as they seek their first win of the season, in the form of stars Shakiria Chaney and Emily Gamon. Chaney leads the team with 41 points and 20 rebounds so far this season. The young freshman guard Gamon sits not far behind with 26 points to her ledger, leading the team with six assists as well.
