Mclendon's career-high performance leads Panthers to 89-77 rout of Oglethorpe

The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (3-2) bested the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels (4-4) by a final score of 89-77 Tuesday night (Nov. 26). The win was aided by a career-high scoring performance from Amanda Mclendon, who earned a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Game Details
Both teams struggled offensively to start the game, as Oglethorpe held a slight 3-2 advantage after three minutes had eclipsed in the first quarter. Quality passing suddenly ignited the Panthers offense as five different players contributed to a 24-point explosion in the final six minutes of the quarter to give LaGrange a 26-13 lead after one.

The offensive showcase rolled over into the second quarter as Kenzie England got things going with a fastbreak layup to put her team up 28-21. Laila Battle and Amanda Mclendon combined for 15 points in the second stanza to put LaGrange up 52-36 at the half.

The Panthers put their paws back on the gas pedal to start the second half, as they dropped another quarter of a hundred points in the third. LC continued to dominate, draining two's at a consistent rate with occasional three-pointers to electrify their offense. A perfect 12/12 outing at the free-throw line through three quarters added a little extra sting to their dominant lead as they seemingly forced the visiting Stormy Petrels into submission heading into the final period.

The pressure from the hosts LaGrange remained throughout the final quarter as they snuffed out any semblance of an Oglethorpe comeback. Amanda Mclendon capped things off, securing her double-double and leading the Panthers to an 89-77 victory.

Top Panther Performers
Clearly the top player on the court, Mclendon surpassed her previous career-high of 22 points with 24 on the night in a double-double performance for the Panthers.

Laila Battle was not far behind, with an impressive showing of 19 points, four assists and a 5/6 night at the free-throw line.
