LaGrange College Men's Basketball fell 68-62 to the Brevard College Tornados in a hard fought battle tonight at home (Nov. 25).
Game Details
LC started the out-of-conference matchup by securing a two-possession lead, which the Panthers maintained throughout the first half. LaGrange took this early 7-2 advantage after a
Brodie Scott steal created a
Kameron McCall score. One thing that stood out in the half was the Panthers' ability to maintain relentless pressure, forcing the Tornados into bad passes and poor shots. The stifling LC defense not only smothered the Tornados scoring chances, but also created Panther points with Scott securing a pair of these plays. With six minutes left in the half, the LaGrange lead was dashed to 19-15 after the Tornados hit back-to-back threes. Following the six-point BC scoring run, both teams began to struggle to make their shots, leading to the Panthers holding a 28-22 advantage at the break.
Kameron McCall finished with a team-high nine points, shooting an impressive 50% from the field.
LC carried over the scoring woes early into the second half, allowing the Tornados to cut the Panthers lead to just 30-28. The LaGrange struggles continued until
Brodie Scott knocked in an acrobatic layup over his defender to ignite the spark LC needed. After the contested score, the LaGrange offense surged, with sharp-shooting guard
Jace Herrell leading the way, sinking three straight three-pointers to give the Panthers a 43-32 advantage. LaGrange held a double-digit lead, but a series of fouls by LC and a three-pointer from Brevard allowed the Tornados to close the gap to 51-46 with less than five minutes to go. Coming out of the media time-out, BC found success attacking the rim, allowing the visitors to take their first lead of the game at 54-53. Like a man on a mission,
Samuel Moss erupted late for LaGrange. Moss' impressive sequence of plays began with a chase-down block that had the Panthers fans roaring. He then made a crucial midcourt steal which narrowed the BC lead to 56-55 with just one minute left. The talented guard closed out the remarkable stretch by knocking down a last-second three-pointer, sending the game into overtime.
The Panthers continued to scratch, claw and throw everything at the Tornados, but BC did just enough to hold on to win 68-62.
