The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (1-2) were dealt a tough loss Saturday evening (Nov. 16) to the Berry College Vikings by a final score of 63-57 in their first of a pair of games at the SAA/CCS Classic.
Game Details
The Panthers came out swinging to start the game, as
Britney Chavez helped lift them to a 15-12 lead after the first quarter of play with six points.
Chavez and company turned up the heat in the second quarter, extending their lead to eight as they held a 25-17 advantage with nearly five minutes remaining in the opening half. Offensively, LC finished the half strong by reaching 30 points off the heels of 18 combined points from Chavez and
Zyhia Johnson. Defensively, however, they could not keep the Vikings from throwing a few punches of their own as LC led by only two points up 30-28 at the half.
LaGrange seemingly began to roll early in the second half as they led by seven up 37-30 to start the third quarter. Unfortunately for LC, Berry flipped a switch late as they took a seven-point lead late in the quarter, leading 50-43 heading into the final frame.
Refusing to go down without a fight, the Panthers fought valiantly to bring themselves back into a winning position, trailing by only four after a huge three-point shot from
Kendra Roberts to make it a 61-57 game with .33 left in regulation. Despite their attempts to rally late, LC sadly could not recover in time as the clock struck double zeros, finalizing their 63-57 defeat.
