Panthers demolish Pride in Homecoming victory

LaGrange College Football secured their third-straight victory for the first time since 2009 thanks to a huge 52-16 Homecoming win over the Pride of Greensboro College (Oct. 26). This improved the season record to 4-3 (4-1 USA South) which marks the first time since 2013 that the Panthers won four USA South games in a single season (second most all-time).

Game Details
First Half
Offense

The LC offense started the game with a methodical 13-play six-minute touchdown drive that was capped off with a hard rushing score by Rashod Brockington. Following a second quarter Panthers interception, LC opened the following drive in Greensboro's redzone. With this great field position, LaGrange quickly moved the ball inside the ten, setting up a Goldman Butler VI rushing touchdown. The Panthers secured a 21-6 lead, following a third straight scoring drive that ended with a deep touchdown pass to the speedy Mikael Myrick. The Panthers immediately got the ball back thanks to a forced fumble by the kick team. On the opening play, Henry Brodnax hit Jasharie Anderson in stride on a 44-yard touchdown. This marks the first time this season that LC scored four straight touchdowns on consecutive drives. The Panthers led 28-6 at half. At the break, Henry Brodnax completed seven of his ten passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Jasharie Anderson led the wideout group with 44 yards on two grabs. Goldman Butler VI gained 41 yards and a touchdown on 12 attempts.

Defense
The LC defense opened the game with a fourth down stop on the Panthers forty after the Pride found some success in the passing game. On the next GC series, Keyon Stoutemire jumped a five-yard out-route to secure his third interception of the season. Following a handful of solid passes by the Pride, the visitors from Carolina dashed the LC lead to 14-6 with six minutes remaining in the second. This was the final full GC series of the half. Deon King Jr. led the unit with five tackles, followed by Chris Jonas (4) and Yolando Barrett (4). Keyon Stoutemire had the lone interception.

Second Half
Offense

The LC offense, well the kick return team, opened the second half with a 97-yard Aubrey Carter touchdown. This is the first kick return score for LC since 2017 (also against Greensboro). On the next series, Jasharie Anderson put the Panthers up 42-16 after he tipped toed 33-yards down the LC sideline for his second touchdown of the day. What is so impressive about Anderson, is that once he has a step on the defender, no one is catching him. The following Panthers possession ended on a 24-yard Landon Eaker field goal to give LC the 45-16 lead with 13 minutes left in the game. With four minutes remaining, the Panthers grabbed a 52-16 advantage thanks to an outstanding 27-yard touchdown pass from Rashod Brockington to Johnathan Lampkin. LC ran out the clock in victory formation to win 52-16 over the Pride of Greensboro College.

Defense
The Panthers first defensive series of the half ended with a 2-yard pop-pass touchdown that cut the LC lead to 35-13. The visitors secured this field position by capitalizing on the LC penalties. On the following drive, the Pride again moved the ball into the Panthers territory but was held to a field goal. LC led 42-16 going into the fourth. The Panthers defense came up big in the next two series, stopping the Pride on fourth down for the second and third times today but not the last. In the final few minutes, the LaGrange defense began to heavily rotate backups in. Despite not being the starters, the Panthers who saw the field continued to punish the Pride with three-and-outs. LC went on to win 52-16.
