Box Score 2 ATLANTA - LaGrange lost two tough matches at the Emory Invitational on Saturday. The Panthers (0-3) lost 3-2 to Brevard and 3-1 to Greensboro.
In the Brevard match, the two teams were separated by a single point after the five sets. The Panthers won the first set 25-22 before Brevard tied the match with a marathon 34-32 second set win. The Panthers went up 2-1 with a 25-19 third set win, only to have Brevard take the final two sets 25-21 and 15-13. Greensboro downed the Panthers 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-18.
"This weekend was definitely a test for the girls and the coaching staff alike," said coach Moneshia McKenney. "We definitely have some things to work on but there is a lot of positive things to build on and proceed with. This year will be the laying of the foundation and rebuilding of Lagrange Panther volleyball."
Junior setter Kirsten Boyd recorded a triple-triple in the Brevard match. She had a team and career high 16 kills, 21 assists, and 16 digs. Junior outside hitter Jharia Harris had then career highs of nine kills and 22 digs. Junior middle blocker Ariel Modeste had seven kills and seven total blocks.
Harris set a new a career high of 10 kills in the Greensboro match. Boyd came within two kills of a second straight triple triple, finishing with eight kills, 13 assists, and 19 digs. Junior right side hitter Karson Troth had six kills and a team best 15 assists.
The Panthers play in the Oglethorpe Invitational next Friday and Saturday. LC will face Millsaps and tournament host Oglethorpe on Friday and Averett on Saturday.
