Box Score MACON, Ga. - LaGrange stayed perfect in the USA South with a 3-0 sweep of Wesleyan on Wednesday night. The Panthers improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, with their third straight win.
LC took the match by scores of 25-10, 25-19, and 25-15. The Panthers had a balanced scoring attack in keeping the Wolves (0-2, 0-2 USA South) winless.
Sophomore Kaela Busby had a match-high nine kills and finished with a .429 attack percentage (9-3-14). Fellow sophomore Ariel Modeste had seven kills and a match-best .600 attack percentage (7-1-10). Modeste also had two solo blocks and two block assists. Sophomores Kirsten Boyd and Bre Dufault had match-bests 26 assists and 14 digs respectively.
In the first set, LC took control with an early 7-0 run for a 9-2 lead. Modeste started the run with her first kill of the night and Dufault added two service aces. LC closed out the set by scoring the last six points.
The Panthers never trailed in the second set but the Wolves stayed within striking distance. McKenzie Richards broke an early 7-7 tie with three straight service aces. Leading 19-17, the Panthers closed out the set by scoring five of the last seven points. Heidi Shrontz and Modeste had back-to-back kills to push the lead back to four, then Shrontz's kill ended the set.
The two teams went back and forth in the final set. Leading 12-11, the Panthers outscored the Wolves 13-4 to close out the match. Busby had four of her nine kills in the set.
The Panthers look to extend their winning streak at Brevard on Sunday.
