Football: LC celebrates Homecoming with 29-14 win over Greensboro

Box Score

LaGrange celebrated Homecoming with a 29-14 USA South win over Greensboro in Callaway Stadium on Saturday. The Panthers (2-6, 2-4 USA South) snapped a four-game losing streak to keep Greensboro (0-8, 0-6 USA South).

"It wasn't always pretty, but we got the win. I'm so proud of this team," said Coach Earl Chambers. "They've been through a lot adversity on and off the field, and they continue to fight every Saturday.

It's a great feeling to finally finish a game with the scoreboard in our favor, especially on Homecoming. We still have a long way to go, so we will enjoy this win today and get back to work tomorrow for a tough Averett team next week."

Senior quarterback Shedrick Lindsey threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore tight end De'queze Fryer came up six yards shy of another career game. Fryer had seven receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

The Panthers finished with 460 yards of total offense, their second highest total of the season. The defense held Greensboro to 231 yards, including just 43 on the ground.

LC led 7-0 after the first quarter, despite turning the ball over on downs inside its own 20 and having the Pride defense make a goal line stand. The Panthers put together a short 45-yard scoring drive to take the lead. Lindsey threw 30 yards to Fryer down to the Pride 15. Two plays later, the pair hooked up again from 6 yards out for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead with 1:40 left in the opening quarter.

Alex Rivera made the first of his three field goals from 29 yards out to make it 10-0 in the second quarter. The Pride cut the Panthers lead to three on David Loughry's 42-yard touchdown throw to Zach Atkinson.

The Panthers came back with a 75-yard drive to go up by 10 again. Lindsey accounted for all of the yards in the air. He went 42 yards to Eric Harris down to the Pride 12 and on the next play found Colby Daniel in the back of the end zone for the touchdown with 1:31 left in the half.

Greensboro drove to the Panthers' 21 in the closing seconds of the half. But Joe Thomas sacked Pratt Spivey to end the half. Thomas had two quarterback sacks in the game.

LC extended its lead to 26-7 in the third quarter. Rivera's 29-yard field goal opened the second half scoring. Lindsey and Fryer connected for their second touchdown, a short 2 yard pass to cap a 61-yard drive. The touchdown was set up by Ajani Williams' 24 yard reception down to the 2.

Greensboro got within 12, 26-14, on a 17-yard touchdown pass by McKinley VanDyke, the Pride's third quarterback of the game. But Rivera's final field goal of the game from 31 yards provided the 29-14 final.

The Panthers play at Averett in a USA South game next Saturday at 1 p.m.
