Men's Soccer: Birmingham-Southern edges Panthers 2-1 with second half goal

The LaGrange soccer team played unbeaten Birmingham-Southern in a hard-fought game before falling 2-1 on Saturday.

The Panthers slipped to 1-6, while Birmingham-Southern is still unbeaten with a 5-0-1 mark.

Sophomore goalkeeper A.J. Wilson had a spectacular game with a season-high 15 saves in the game. Birmingham-Southern had a 29-2 shot advantage that included a 17-1 shots on goal edge.

The Panthers opened the game's scoring in the 12th minute. Freshman Kristian Javier took a through ball from Adrien Vakerics and beat goalkeeper Jonas Heidrach for his first collegiate goal and a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers held the lead until the closing seconds of the half. Patrick Erickson scored with 24 seconds left to tie the game up 1-1 at halftime.

Birmingham-Southern got the game-winner in the 69th minutes with a goal from Dylan Rose. The visiting Panthers made the goal stand up for the 2-1 final.

The Panthers host Florida College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
