MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The LaGrange College men's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory against host Huntingdon College in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Wednesday evening at the Samford Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Alabama. The win effectively clinched the Panthers' berth into the CCS postseason tournament.
THE BASICS
Score: Huntingdon 1, LaGrange 2
Records: Panthers 5-3-8, 1-1-4 CCS | Hawks 2-10-3, 1-3-1 CCS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers wasted little time in the contest's onset, netting a goal off the foot of LaGrange senior forward Dylan Bailey (Marietta, Ga.) in the eighth minute of action to take the early one-nil advantage.
- The Hawks were able to respond, however, equalizing the affair in the 32nd minute as Dashun McDonald snuck one just past the gloves of LC sophomore netminder Sawyer Williams (Johns Creek, Ga.).
- The second half was hotly contested, as a stalemate ensued between the two squads, jockeying for position both in the game and conference standings. Thankfully for the Panthers, the pendulum swung back in their favor majorly as sophomore forward Kenny Pameni (Atlanta, Ga.) heroicly deposited the game-winner in the 87th minute to send his team to the conference tournament.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Williams registered a pair of key saves whilst in net for the Panthers.
- Senior forward Lucas Duke (Dexter, Ga.) led both units with three shots on goal.
- Shots were 21-9 (8-3 SOG) in favor of LaGrange.
- The Panthers, having drawn with the Hawks earlier in the season, rectified the result against their longtime conference rivals.
