Tony Talbert

Tony Talbert joined the LaGrange College football staff prior to the 2023 season.

Entering the 2026-27 year, his fourth season on staff, Talbert enters his fourth season with the Panthers and his second as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator.

Under Talbert's leadership, the Panthers' defense has developed into one of the elite units in NCAA Division III. During the historic 2025 season, LaGrange finished 10-2 overall, captured the first USA South Conference Championship in program history with a perfect 7-0 league record, and earned the program's first NCAA Division III Playoff victory.

The Panthers' defense was among the nation's best, finishing first in NCAA Division III with 42 sacks, fourth with 102 tackles for loss, fifth with 20 interceptions, 15th in rushing defense (75.4 yards per game), and 23rd in total defense (266.9 yards per game). The defense's relentless, attacking style helped fuel a record-setting season that also produced three All-Region selections, two All-Americans, his second USA South Defensive Rookie of the Year, and numerous All-Conference performers.

In 2024, Talbert coordinated one of the most disruptive defenses in the country, forcing 19 turnovers in 10 games while helping develop the USA South Defensive Rookie of the Year and multiple All-Conference defenders.

Prior to joining LaGrange College, Talbert served on the coaching staff at Hampden-Sydney College from 2021-2023, coaching the defensive line, coordinating special teams, and serving as one of the program's lead recruiters. He also coached the Tigers' safeties, mentoring Will Pickren to consecutive First Team All-ODAC honors. Pickren was named the 2021 Touchdown Club of Richmond State Small College Defensive Back of the Year and earned Third Team All-Region recognition.

A standout player at Hampden-Sydney, Talbert played linebacker and safety for the Tigers from 2016-2020 while earning a bachelor's degree in Business and Economics.

A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Talbert was a standout at Monticello High School, where he earned All-State honors at linebacker, All-Conference recognition on the offensive line, and was named the Jefferson District Player of the Year in 2015.

Talbert joined Head Coach Wes Dodson's inaugural LaGrange College staff in February 2023 and has helped lead one of the fastest turnarounds in program history. During his tenure, the Panthers have recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in school history, won the program's first conference championship, earned their first NCAA Division III Playoff victory, and established themselves as one of the premier defensive programs in the nation. He currently resides in LaGrange, Georgia.
