DANVILLE, Ky. – The LaGrange College football team won 16-14 at Centre College in non-conference action on Saturday at Joe McDaniel Field at Andy Frye Stadium in Danville, Kentucky.

TURNING POINT
- The Panthers were clinging to a two-point lead when they punted the ball to the Colonels with 7:17 left in the game. Centre completed six straight passes, setting up a first and ten at the LaGrange 21 going into the two-minute warning. With the game on the line, the vaunted LC defense stiffened. On first down at the 16, LaGrange junior linebacker Ched Smith (Macon, Ga.) dropped Centre sophomore quarterback Kyle Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) for a short loss. On the very next play, junior linebacker Wyatt Tant (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and sophomore linebacker Jayven Hall (Roswell, Ga.) stopped Davis on a short gain. The Colonels settled for a 32-yard field goal attempt, only to watch junior kicker Isaac Johnson's (Nicholasville, Ky.) try go wide. The Panthers' ensuing drive drained the clock to 25 seconds, and a sack on Davis by LaGrange sophomore defensive lineman Zymarion Hudson (Cordele, Ga.) and sophomore linebacker Akeem Blackmon (Montgomery, Ala.) effectively ended the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- LaGrange graduate wide receiver Ashton Bryant (Athens, Ga.) posted a career-high 157 receiving yards off four catches and a touchdown. Bryant's 67 yard touchdown with 36 seconds left in the first half got the Panthers on the board.
- LaGrange senior quarterback Henry Brodnax (Newnan, Ga.) threw for 193 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers on the day.
- LaGrange senior running back Michael Hays (Jacksonville, Fla.) led the Panther rushing attack with 64 yards off 17 carries. Hays also added a 19-yard kickoff return. Freshman running back Amire Miller (Richmond Hill, Ga.) had 28 yards and a touchdown off eight carries while junior quarterback Aaron McLaughlin (Alpharetta, Ga.) posted 26 yards off seven carries.
- Davis rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns for the Colonels.
- LaGrange sophomore kicker / punter James Whatley (Birmingham, Ala.) averaged 39.9 yards per punt over seven punts and 65.0 yards per kickoff to maintain the Panthers' field position advantage.
- Hall had a career-high 10 tackles to lead the Panther defense, with three tackles for loss and a pass breakup. Hudson added eight tackles while senior linebacker Dezmond Jones (Thomasville, Ga.) posted seven.
UP NEXT
- LaGrange is off next Saturday on their bye-week but they'll be back on the field on Saturday, October 3rd when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan for their conference opener in a 1:00 p.m. game.
