RALEIGH, N.C. – The LaGrange College women's volleyball team split their two matches at the Raleigh Invitational hosted by Meredith College on Saturday afternoon, falling in four sets to the host Avenging Angels before rebounding with a four-set victory over Maryville College in the later match. It was the Panthers first victory over the Scots since September 29, 2018 when both squads were members of the USA South Athletic Conference. With the split, LaGrange improves to 5-3 on the season.
LAGRANGE 1, MEREDITH 3 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22)
- After dropping the first two sets, the Panthers rebounded with a 25-20 win in the third before falling just short in a heart-breaking fourth. LaGrange junior outside hitter Ella Sprouse (Sneads, Fla.) led the team with 15 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Alex Krabs (Boynton Beach, Fla.) posted 11 kills with 11 digs with four total blocks.
- LaGrange junior setter Julia Damico (North Port, Fla.) posted 23 set assists with three aces and eight digs.
LAGRANGE 3, MARYVILLE 1 (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22)
- Sprouse continued her strong play against the Scots, hitting .387 with 13 kills.
- LaGrange sophomore middle-blocker Kaitlyn Smith (Buckeye, Ariz.), last week's CCS Player of the Week, hit .563 with ten kills. Sophomore outside hitter Danika Durham (Parker, Ariz.) added nine kills.
- LaGrange junior libero Gabby Bellamy (Sneads, Fla.) posted 20 digs, averaging 5.0 per set, her best performance since joining the Panthers.
