LAGRANGE, Ga. – With inclement weather on the horizon, the LaGrange College Panthers are rescheduling our plans for Thursday through Saturday.
Baseball
The LaGrange baseball team (18-15, 7-8 CCS) is coming off their biggest win of the season as they swept nationally-ranked Piedmont College last weekend, picking up three wins that saw the Panthers surge up in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) standings with their regular-season ending series against Maryville yet to come.
Sophomore pitcher
Josiah Chiesa (Dalton, Ga.) was named CCS Pitcher of the Week, as he was instrumental in the Panthers' come-from-behind wins over the Lions of Piedmont on Friday and Saturday, entering both games in relief and throwing a combined four-and-two-thirds shutout innings, striking out six and allowing no hits. Freshman centerfielder
Tanner Morneau (Marietta, Ga.) earned CCS Rookie of the Week honors, after playing a key role in the sweep. Morneau batted .533 (8-for-15), scoring six runs while driving in six more. Morneau recorded a double and a triple, drew two walks, and added a stolen base, while also finishing the week with a perfect fielding percentage in center field.
Due to projected inclement weather on Saturday, the Panthers' series against the Scots of Maryville will now be as follows: The series opens at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. LaGrange senior day will begin on Friday at 1:30 p.m., where the Panthers will recognize their senior class from this year's team. After the ceremony, LaGrange and Maryville will play at 2:00 p.m. Friday, which is now a double-header. Friday's game two is tentatively scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
No games will be played on Saturday.
The Scots of Maryville (23-14, 7-8 CCS) enter the series with the best pitching staff in the CCS, boasting a 4.15 ERA in 37 games. They are led by
Titus Torbett with a 4-3 record and a 2.40 ERA and 38 strikeouts. Their lineup is led by Det Dettwiller, batting .397 with five home runs and 32 RBI.
Softball
The LaGrange College softball team (14-20, 9-5 CCS) travels to Belhaven University on Saturday for their regular season ending double-header against the first-place Tartans.
The Panthers are currently in a three-way tie for third place in the CCS standings, enjoying their best season since joining the conference. Senior pitcher / second baseman
Claire Chamberlain leads the team at the plate with a .324 batting average with 12 walks and 11 RBI while pitching with a 3.77 ERA.
The Tartans of Belhaven (20-8, 11-1 CCS) are led by
