Records: Panthers 0-4 | Stormy Petrels 2-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Stormy Petrels drew first blood as they jumped out a 2-0 lead over the Red and Black. The Panthers were able to respond, however, tying the game at two-apiece thanks to the stick of senior attackman Nicholas Murciano (Gainesville, Ga.) LC would trail 4-3 at the end of one.
- Production slowed for the Panthers in the second period, as they trailed 8-4 heading into the locker rooms.
- The second half was largely controlled by LaGrange, outscoring the host Petrels 8-6 across the third and fourth periods. The contest reached its climax when junior midfielder Adam Jones (Maryville, Tenn.) tied the game 12-12 with 4:44 left in regulation.
- With tension mounting, LaGrange did all it could to complete the comeback and net the game-winning goal. Sadly, Oglethorpe's Gannon Johnson broke the hearts of the good guys as he scored twice in the final minute to hand LC just their fourth loss of the season.
- Murciano ended the afternoon with seven goals off 14 shots on goal with four ground balls.
- Senior midfielder Tyler Abrams (McDonough, Ga.) had four points, coming from a pair of respective goals and assists, in addition to eight ground balls as well.
- Freshman goalie Alex Mann (Peachtree City, Ga.) tallied 20 saves in the losing effort for LaGrange.
