Two More Wins for Baseball at Huntingdon Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala.– The LaGrange College baseball team won two games at the Firehouse Classic hosted by Huntingdon College in non-conference action on Saturday at Neal Posey Field in Montgomery, Alabama, winning 11-6 over Schreiner University before an 11-1 victory over Berea College.

GAME 1 – SCHREINER 6, LAGRANGE 11
  • LaGrange freshman second baseman Collin McGhee (Ball Ground, Ga.) had four runs batted in and two stolen bases from out of the leadoff position, continuing his blistering start to his collegiate career.
  • Senior first baseman Colin Jones (Duluth, Ga.) had two doubles with two RBIs in game one, continuing to show power out of the cleanup spot.  
  • Sophomore third baseman Erick Rodriguez (Lilburn, Ga.) and junior outfielder Ben Hollenbeck (Newnan, Ga.) each finished with a pair of hits.
GAME 2 – BEREA 1, LAGRANGE 11
  • Jones dominated game two with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third combined with a pair of sacrifice flies later in the game for five total RBI.
  • Senior centerfielder Jackson McElvy (Kennesaw, Ga.) was a base-running demon, going three-for-three with two walks, five stolen bases and three runs scored.     
  • McGhee had two more RBI and a stolen base against Berea.
  • Freshman outfielder Matthew Brown (Marietta, Ga.) went two-for-four with a double and an RBI.
  • Freshman pitcher Beau Collier (Labelle, Fla.) picked up his first career win with three strikeouts and just one earned run allowed over five innings. Freshman pitcher Aiden Pluff (Richmond Hill, Ga.) dominated in relief with four strikeouts in two shutout innings.
  • Through three games, the Panthers are averaging 9.66 runs per game.
UP NEXT
  • LaGrange is back on the field on Friday when they host Milikin University in their home opener. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
