LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College women's basketball team lost 70-60 to visiting Piedmont University in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action on Friday afternoon at historic Mariotti Gym in LaGrange, Georgia.
THE BASICS
Score: LaGrange 60, Piedmont 70
Records: Panthers 13-7, 9-2 CCS | Lions 9-10, 6-4 CCS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a slow start for both teams as the Lions looked to snap the Panthers' six-game winning streak. LC would trail by seven at the end of one.
- LaGrange found their footing in the second frame as they trailed 28-32 heading into the locker rooms.
- It looked as if the visiting Lions were set to run away with the contest as the deficit grew to 14 with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. Fortunately, LC still had plenty of fight left in them as Malea Graves (Tuscumbia, Ala.) and Co cut the lead down to just four with a single quarter left to play.
- The Panthers did all they could to level the contest in the fourth, but sadly could not slow down the Lions' offense as they fell 70-60. The Panthers still sit atop the CCS standings as a duel with Asbury University tomorrow afternoon will determine the conference's true top contender.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Laila Battle (Smyrna, Ga.) led the team offensively with 17 points, tabbing three rebounds to her total as well.
- Graves enjoyed a nine-point game with three steals to her credit as well.
- Piedmont's Kylie Watkins (Cleveland, Ga.) also notched a 17-point performance in the winning effort.
UP NEXT
- LaGrange is back on the court on tomorrow when they host Asbury for a 2:00 p.m. game.
