TOP PANTHERS
- LaGrange senior running back Michael Hays (Jacksonville, Fla.), last week's USA South Offensive Player of the Week, turned in the best performance of his collegiate career, rushing for 198 yards off 23 carries with two touchdowns and averaging 8.6 yards per carry in a stellar effort. Hays' 198 yards are the third most in LaGrange history for a single game.
- Junior defensive back Messiah Scandrett (Atlanta, Ga.) picked off two passes for the Panthers, adding four tackles.
- Junior linebacker Ched Smith (Macon, Ga.) posted a team-high 12 tackles with three tackles for a loss and one sack.
- Senior quarterback Henry Brodnax (Newnan, Ga.) threw 9-of-15 for 79 passing yards.
THE KEY MOMENTS
- The Panthers' offense wasted little time on their first drive as a 54-yard pass from Brodnax to graduate wide receiver Ashton Bryant (Athens, Ga.) setup a six-yard touchdown rush by freshman running back Bakari Hamilton (Peachtree City, Ga.) as LaGrange went up 7-0.
- The Tornados were driving on their first drive when Smith picked up a nine-yard sack of Brevard freshman quarterback Christian Conley (Brevard, N.C.) on third down to end the threat.
- Early in the second quarter, Hays took the handoff on five of the Panthers' seven snaps, resulting in him punching it in for the two. A two-point conversion gave LaGrange a 15-0 lead. The teams went into halftime with the visitors leading 15-7.
- Midway through the third quarter, after a Scandrett interception, Hays took the handoff on second down and could not be stopped, rushing for a 62-yard touchdown. The Panthers went ahead 21-7.
- With 3:27 left in the fourth quarter, the Tornados had battled their way to the LC 10 yard line. On third down with the game on the line, LaGrange junior linebacker Mark Buelow Jr. (Roswell, Ga.) picked off Conley to seal the win.
