LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Softball Team (5-11) squared off with the Majors of Millsaps College (7-4) on Saturday (Mar. 8), falling in doubleheader action by respective final scores of 3-12 and 2-10.
Game One Summary
Claire Chamberlain was credited with the loss in game one, yielding three strikeouts in the process. After allowing four runs in the first inning, the Panthers were able to find their footing defensively with a pair of up and down innings. With LC unable to produce runs themselves, however, the Majors' bats eventually reawakened as they drove in two more runs in the fifth to increase the damage. The LaGrange offense finally got the picture, scoring three in the fifth and sixth innings. The rally attempt would unfortunately be for naught as Millsaps forced the run-rule and took game one 12-3.
Game Two Summary
Lily Grace Fulford assumed pitching duties to start game two, forcing five groundouts, three flyouts and a strikeout in the first three innings of play.
Jenna Yeary took over for the rest of the game, retiring 10 batters via four flyouts, three groundouts and three strikeouts, respectively. The Panthers had no issue making contact, garnering five hits and forcing two Major errors. They were unable to keep pace with the visitors, however, who staved off the hosts LC to take game two of the doubleheader 10-2.
Panthers of the Game
Kayla Helms led LC in game one with two hits and an RBI to the freshman Dallas, Ga native's credit.
Breonn Newbille made a solid impact in both games, scoring as a runner in game one and laying down two hits in the second tilt.
