MARYVILLE, Tn. - The LaGrange College Men's Basketball Team (6-17, 1-9 Collegiate Conference of the South) fell to the Maryville College Scots (17-5, 8-1 CCS) by a final score of 81-62 Saturday night (Feb. 8) from the Cooper Athletic Center.
Samuel Moss proved to be a highlight for LC, scoring 20 points as he now sits just 24 away from 700 career points in his second season as a Panther.
Game Summary
The Panthers looked primed and ready for a huge win at the start of the game, holding a three-point advantage over the Scots after the first five minutes of action. Finding a scoring rhythm that clicked, however, Maryville was able to jump LC to take a 10-point lead late in the half. The Panthers were able to trim the deficit down to seven as
Samuel Moss' buzzer-beating layup ended the half as his team trailed 34-27 at the intermission.
Moss and
Devin Dowell tried to will their squad to pick up the pace in the second half, but could not quite spark their offense enough as Maryville exploded for 47 points. The offensive clinic would be enough to hand LC their second-consecutive loss.
Panthers of the Game
Moss led the Panthers in scoring with 20 points on the night, tallying six rebounds with two blocks and two steals, respectively. The performance inched him closer to 700 career points, needing just 24 in LaGrange's final two games to eclipse the mark.
LaGrange native
Devin Dowell also had a solid showing for LC, scoring 14 points on the evening.
