Panthers' season ends in CCS Semifinals in loss to Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The LaGrange College Panthers Women's Basketball Team saw the conclusion of their season on Friday night (Feb. 28), in a heartbreaking 72-54 loss to Piedmont University in the CCS Tournament semifinal round.

Game Summary
Both teams traded blows in the game's opening quarter, as Zyhia Johnson and Amya Walker scored the first two baskets to give LC an early 4-0 lead. The first period saw five lead changes throughout as the Lions grabbed a slight one-point edge by the end of one.

The second quarter was an all-out defensive struggle as both squads scored a combined 17 points. Johnson and Walker continued to come through for the Panthers, as they allowed their team gain a 30-27 lead heading into the locker rooms.

The onset of the second half seemed to be a continuation of the first half battle as the host Lions led by four with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Piedmont offense suddenly found a spark, capitalizing on a critical momentum swing to take a commanding 11-point lead heading into the final quarter.

With their backs majorly against the ropes, the Panther offense put together their second-most successful quarter of the game, scoring 15 points in the fourth to try and claw their way back into the game. Unfortunately for LaGrange, the Lions' offensive momentum continued as they fell short of the comeback bid to be eliminated from the conference tournament, effectively concluding their season.

Panthers of the Game
Zyhia Johnson led the Panthers offensively with 17 points, picking up six rebounds and two assists in the process.

Kendra Roberts was also a top-scorer for LC, scoring 16 points with a likewise rebound total of six as well as three steals.

Amya Walker led the team with 10 rebounds, adding four points and a pair of steals to her ledger as well.
