Panthers fall just short in final game of the season Saturday

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Panthers Men's Basketball Team's season came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday night (Feb. 22), falling to the Covenant Scots in a high-scoring affair by a final of 99-93 from Mariotti Gym. The Panthers ended the season with an overall record of 6-19 and a 1-11 Collegiate Conference of the South record.

Game Summary
The game started with an alternative starting lineup for LC, as seniors Parker Lovett and Tayshawn Pendleton got the nod for their Senior Day game. Lovett hit one of the most electrifying three pointers of the season for LaGrange as the Mariotti Gym crowd of over 200 Panther faithful erupted into sheer pandemonium.

The Panther offense really hit their stride late in the first half, shooting over 43% as they battled with a Scots squad who seemed to be unable to miss from behind the arc as they made 11 three's to match all that LC threw at them. The first half's offensive clinic finally produced an end as the Scots held a slight lead of 58-54 at the half.

The second half seemed to be all-LC as they dominated from all over the court, taking a seven-point lead in the first 3:30 of the frame. Still with plenty of game left, however, an all out power struggle ensued between the two teams.

The Panthers did all they could to fend off the visitors, as they continued to score at a consistent pace. Covenant continued to apply the pressure as they hit timely three-pointers to extinguish all of LC's attempts of reclaiming the momentum, eventually gaining the lead with 11:35 left in the game. A cruel microcosm of the season, LaGrange's ability to score went suddenly cold as they failed to reestablish their offensive rhythm in time before the clock struck double zeros on their 2024-25 campaign.

Panthers of the Game
Samuel Moss had an incredible game for LC, scoring 15 points to join the 700-point club in his career.

Devin Dowell led the team with 16 points, in addition to four rebounds and three assists to the hometown product's credit.

Micah McAllister also proved to be a catalyst for the Panthers on the night, with 15 points to his name to the tune of a five-rebound, three-assist and two-steal performance.

Up Next
The Panthers return to action this fall as they tipoff their 2025-26 season in late October/early November of this year. Stay tuned to the LaGrange College Men's Basketball Page for future info regarding next season.
