ATLANTA, Ga. – LaGrange repeated Saturday's results at the Emory Classic on Sunday. The Panthers downed Maryville for the second straight day, beating the Scots 6-1. In the final game of the tournament, LC lost to host Emory 11-3 in five innings.
LaGrange 6, Maryville 1
Claire Chamberlain (1-2) pitched a four-hit complete game against Maryville. At the plate, she had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and had three RBIs.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chamberlain and
Alexa Gonzalez each brought home a run with ground outs.
The pair accounted for two more runs in the third inning. Chamberlain's run-scoring single drove in the first run of the inning. Gonzalez doubled to left field, driving in Chamberlain to up LC's lead to 4-1.
LC closed out the scoring in the fifth inning. Chamberlain capped her day at the plate with an RBI double, then scored on
Kayla Helms' double to up the lead to 6-1.

Emory 11, LaGrange 3
Emory broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run third inning, then closed out the game with a five-run fifth to win the game on the 8-run mercy rule.
Helms' RBI single in the first inning gave LC an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles answered with two runs in their half of the first, then added another run in the second to go up 3-1.
The Panthers tied the game in the third inning. Gonzalez reached on an error to score Chamberlain. Later in the inning,
Kenzie Hornsby's single drove in Gonzalez with the tying run.
The tie was short lived. Emory broke it with three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 6-3. The Eagles ended the game with a five-run fifth.
Lily Rae Fulford (1-2) took the loss for LC. Fulford allowed six runs, five earned, in 2-1/3 innings.
The Panthers play in the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Starting Friday, February 28 and continuing through Sunday, March 2.
