Berry Edges Men’s Basketball, 66-63

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College men's basketball team lost 66-63 to visiting Berry College in non-conference action on Saturday evening at the Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange, Georgia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down by one at halftime, the Panthers found themselves trailing 61-53 with 7:09 left in thew game. LaGrange rallied with a 10-2 run capped off with a putback layup from senior guard Micah McAllister (Newnan, Ga.) with 2:20 remaining in the game, tying the game at 63-63. But the Vikings would answer with an immediate three-pointer from Berry junior guard Canon Armstead (Homewood, Ala.). The Panthers went cold from the floor on their last four possessions, ultimately coming up just short.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • LaGrange sophomore forward Kani Rashied-Henry (Tyrone, Ga.) filled the statline with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five blocks.
  • Berry junior guard Cameron Pope (Canton, Ga.) led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor.
  • LaGrange senior forward Parker Gonzalez (Johns Creek, Ga.) finished with 13 points and five boards, shooting four-of-five from the floor.
  • Berry junior guard Ryan Luttrell (Marietta, Ga.) posted 13 points with four three-pointers made.
  • McAllister added six points, six rebounds and four steals.
  • The Vikings scored half their points on three-pointers, shooting 29.7 percent (11-of-37) from behind the arc against 27.3 percent (6-of-22) for the Panthers.
UP NEXT
  • LaGrange is back on the court next week when they play host to the LaQuinta Inn and Suites Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, hosting teams from Baptist University of Florida, Methodist University and Huntingdon College.
