LAGRANGE, Ga. – Three months after they were picked to finish fourth in the USA South Athletic Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Panthers of the LaGrange College football team are one win away from running an undefeated conference schedule as the travel to Southern Virgina University on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game against the Knights.
The Panthers (8-1, 6-0 USA South) are coming off one of the biggest wins in school history as they defeated Belhaven University 38-6 last Saturday, clinching a spot in the upcoming NCAA Championship Tournament and securing at least a share of the conference championship.
Junior running back
Tacaris Bozeman (Montgomery, Ala.) was named the USA South Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 186 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns against the Blazers.
Senior cornerback
Legend Doggett (McDonough, Ga.) was named the USA South Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after finishing with two of LC's five interceptions against Belhaven. Doggett was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance.
The Panther defense is ranked first in the conference in scoring defense, rushing defense, team passing defense efficiency and passing yards per completion. They rank first in the entire nation in sacks and second in tackles for a loss.
Junior quarterback
Henry Brodnax (Newnan, Ga.) and freshman quarterback
Kirk Scott (Richmond Hill, Ga.) have combined to form a dangerous tandem behind Brodnax's passing and Scott's rushing out of the option. Brodnax has passed for 1776 yards and 12 touchdowns while Scott has rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns in just the last three games.
The Knights (6-3, 3-3 USA South) are led by junior quarterback
Devin Watson (West Jordan, Utah) with 1835 passing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Sophomore running back
Roger Adam (Miami, Fla.) leads the Knight rushing attack with 270 yards and four touchdowns.
The Knight defense is led by freshman linebacker
Cade Hanson (Highland, Utah) with 63 tackles including four sacks.
