MONTGOMERY, Al. - Panther Men's Basketball (4-9, 0-1 Collegiate Conference of the South) was dealt a tough loss on the road Saturday evening (Jan. 4), at the hands of rivals Huntingdon College (11-2, 1-0 CCS), who bested LC by a final score of 82-73.
Game Summary
The Panthers were tested early in the contest as Huntingdon jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first six minutes of play. Ever up to the task, however, LaGrange remained composed, inching their way back into competitive position as they trailed by just one at the 9:34 mark in the first half. After a back-and-forth battle of wills to close out the half, it was the Hawks who held the lead heading into the locker rooms up 42-35.
LaGrange's hopes of a big road victory seemed grim to open the second half, as Huntingdon jumped out to another double-digit lead in the first five minutes of action. Trailing by as much as 17, the Panthers' offense finally found a surge, as they cut the deficit down to three off a 16-2 run, trailing 65-62 with 6:59 left in regulation. Unfortunately for LC, the effort to rally would not be enough as the hosts' found enough momentum late to hold on for the 82-73Â win.Â
