The Panthers are headed to the Lone Star State to open the 2024 season against the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University this Friday (Sept. 6), at 8 p.m.

The Teams
Both teams start the season with a clean slate, while LC aims to rebound from a 0-9 year. One Panther to watch out for is no. 9 Goldman Butler VI. Last year, Butler rushed for 659 yards and scored five touchdowns on 130 carries (4.8 yards per rush). His north and south running-style is reminiscent of Woody Hayes's legendary, "three yards and a cloud of dust" offense. ETBU finished the 2023 season 5-5. One player to pay attention to this week is no. 2 Kaden Brown. Presumably QB1, Brown is a sophomore who recently transferred from South Dakota State University (DI FCS). Prior to committing to the Jack Rabbits of SDSU, Brown was the 5A Texas Offensive MVP and a First Team All-State QB at Midlothian Heritage High School (Midlothian, TX).

Minimizing mistakes is crucial in this matchup. Regardless of a team's experience, errors are bound to occur, especially in the first game. If the Panthers can limit these errors and take advantage of those made by ETBU, LC will be in a strong position to secure a week one victory.
