LC Volleyball was on the losing end of a hard-fought battle Wednesday night (Sept. 25) against CCS foe Huntingdon College, who won by a final score of 3-2.
Match Details
The Hawks controlled a majority of the first set, slowly increasing their lead margin throughout as LC tried to keep themselves in a competitive position. The effort would fall well short, however, as Huntingdon took the first set 25-13.
The Panthers took exception to their performance in the opening set, bouncing back with an emphatic showing in the second. They would enjoy leads of five, six and seven before completing the effort with a 10-point win as they edged the hosts 25-15 to tie the match at 1-1.
LC continued to roll in the third set, as they fended off an early two-point deficit to jump in front 15-12. The Hawks would tie it at 15, but could not hold up against the momentum of the visiting Panthers, who would finish off the set with a 25-21 victory.
With the chance to take home the match, LaGrange fought hard to put away Huntingdon, jumping to an early 9-6 lead in the fourth set. The Hawks had other plans, outscoring LC 19-8 from that point on to take the set 25-17 and tie the match at two sets apiece.
The tension in Catherine Dixon Roland Arena reached its climax in the fifth set, as both squads put together season-defining performances to try and secure a much-needed victory. The Panthers seemingly had the match within their grasp, just two points shy of the win as they led 13-11 late in the set. Unfortunately, they could not snuff out a quick four-point burst from Huntingdon, who snatched the final set 15-13 to win the match.
