Box Score ATLANTA - LaGrange took unbeaten Averett to five sets Saturday in the Panthers' final match of the Stormy Petrel Classic. The Panthers (0-6) are still looking for their first win, while the Cougars improved to 8-0.
Jharia Harris and Karson Troth set career highs in leading the Panthers. Harris had a double-double of a career-high 13 kills to go with 15 digs. Troth had a career-high 12 kills. Kirsten Boyd had a double-double of 33 assists and 14 digs.
The Panthers made an early statement by taking the first set, 25-20. They never trailed and led by as many as 12 points. LC ripped off 10 straight points to turn a two-point lead into a 20-8 lead. Boyd had two kills and Troth finished the run with two straight service aces.
Averett came back to take a 2-1 lead in the match by taking the second and third sets, 25-22 and 25-18, respectively. LC evened the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. Journey Oden, who had 11 kills and six total blocks, put down clinching kill off a set from Boyd.
In the deciding fifth set, the Panthers grabbed an early 7-4 lead. Troth's final kill of the match put LC up 12-11. But the Cougars rallied, taking the final four points to take the set and the match.
The Panthers host Huntingdon on Friday, Sept. 17, in Richter Gymnasium at 4 p.m.
