Football: Panthers roll over Greensboro 59-10 for Homecoming 2017

Box Score

LaGrange celebrated Homecoming 2017 with a 59-10 rout of Greensboro on Saturday in Callaway Stadium. The Panthers improved to 3-2 in USA South play and evened their overall record at 4-4.

"I was proud of our kids. We had told them this week during practice to come out fast and I thought we did," Coach Steve Pardue said. "We did a good job both sides of the ball and gave us the opportunity to play kids who help us get ready each week. I thought we had a great crowd and our kids came out excited to play in front of them."

The Panthers scored on offense, defense, and special teams. David Apiag returned a kickoff for one score, while Peyton Haynes and Parker Lancaster returned interceptions for touchdowns. It marked the first time in the program's history to have two interception returns for touchdowns in a game. On offense, Nicholas Searcy and Brandon Snowball each had two rushing touchdowns.

LC ran for a season-high 259 yards in the game. Brendon Scott led the team with 74 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. Alex Scott added 63 yards on six carries. The Panthers had a season-low 148 yards passing, attempting just four passes in the second half with the game well in hand.

Apiag returned the opening kickoff 51 yards to set up the Panthers at the Greensboro 40. Searcy finished the short drive with a 5-yard run for a 7-0 lead. Zachary Kudwa's 27-yard field goal made it 10-0 after the first quarter.

The Panthers blew the game open with a 35-point second quarter. Haynes opened the quarter with a 25-yard interception return to make it 17-0. Searcy scored from 25 yards out and after the Pride fumbled away the ensuing kickoff, Scott went in from 17 yards out just 20 seconds later to up the lead to 31-0. Greensboro got on the board with a Jonathan Pfeiff 27-yard field goal, but Apiag ran the ensuing kickoff back 88 yards. On Greensboro's next play, Lancaster stepped in front of a Rohan Goldston pass and returned it 9-yards for 45-3 lead. The Pride scored late in the half to make it 45-10.

LC added two fourth quarter touchdowns from Brandon Snowball for the 59-10 final. Snowball scored from 6-yards out, then closed out the day with an 11-yard run.
