BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Ella Weymiller tied the LaGrange team record for digs during the NCAA era, as the Panthers split two matches at the BSC/McAttack Bash hosted by Birmingham-Southern on Friday.

Weymiller had 34 digs as the Panthers (4-3) downed LeTourneau (Texas) 3-1. She became the third Panther to reach the mark, the last being Crystal Colvin against Gadsden on Sept. 19, 2009.

Freshmen Sterling Ancrum and Katie Chancellor combined for 24 kills in the match. Chancellor had a double-double of a match-high 13 kills along with 11 digs. Ancrum finished with 11 kills.

Chancellor and freshman setter Mary Katherine Schmitz paced the Panthers in a 3-1 loss to Victory (Tenn.) in the first match of the day. Chancellor had a match-high 17 kills, while Schmitz had a match-high 37 assists in her first action of the season. She had 29 assists against LeTourneau.

Victory was led by Iva Cotric, who had a double-double of 14 kills and a match-high 20 digs.

Saturday, the Panthers face tournament host Birmingham-Southern then against an opponent to be determined in their final match of the tournament.
