Box Score Millsaps spoiled LaGrange's home opener with a 54-7 win Saturday at Callaway Stadium. The Panthers fell to 0-2 on the season while Millsaps improved to 2-0.
Millsaps rolled up over 300 yards in the first half in building a 31-7 lead. The Majors finished with 429 yards of total offense, holding the Panthers to 211 yards.
The Panthers fell behind 17-0 in the second quarter. They answered with a quick 5-play 59-yard drive to cut the Majors' lead. Quarterback Ed Russ came up short on a third down run, but a personal foul penalty gave the Panthers a first down at the Majors' 36. Two plays later, Kent Gibson burst up the middle for 27 yards to make it 17-7.
Millsaps answered with two touchdowns in 22 seconds to break the game open. Quarterback Garrett Pinciotti threw a short touchdown pass with 46 seconds left in the half. Gibson fumbled the ensuing kickoff with the Majors taking over at the Panthers' 34-yard line. Pinciotti threw to Kegan Joplin on the next play for his third touchdown pass of the half and a 31-7 lead.
Pinciotti added another touchdown pass in the third quarter. He finished with 270 yards passing. The Majors tacked on two more scores and blocked a punt for a safety in the second half.
Gibson finished the game with a game-high 93 yards on 15 carries. He also had 136 yards in kick returns, finishing with 228 all-purpose yards.
Terquarius Head and Chris Vernet had six tackles each on defense. Shaun Nichols had a sack.
The Panthers host Huntingdon next Saturday. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
