Volleyball: Panthers take Maryville to five sets before falling at USA South tri-match

BREVARD, N.C. - LaGrange lost two matches at the USA South Tri-Match on Saturday. The Panthers lost to host Brevard 3-0 before losing a five-set thriller to Maryville. The Panthers are now 7-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Brevard won 25-17, 25-23, and 25-18. LC held a 23-21 lead in the second set before the Tornados scored the final four points to take the set. In the third set, the teams were tied at 13 before Brevard scored seven of the next eight points to take control.

Madison Correll led LC with seven kills, while Jazzlyn Kenner added six. Lauren Sanders had five kills and 13 assists. Cierra Terry led the team with 18 digs.

Maryville won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23. The Lady Scots were two points from closing out the match in the third set. The Panthers rallied to pull out a 30-28 win to extend the match. Jazzlyn Kenner got a kill and Emily Boswell got a service ace to close out the set.

The Panthers evened the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. They trailed 18-15 before reeling off six straight points to take the lead for good. But in the deciding fifth set, Maryville never trailed to win it 15-8 to take the match.

James led LC with 12 kills, while Emily Arnold had 10. Sanders had a double-double of 22 assists and 12 digs. Maggie Ivester led the team with 17 digs.

The Panthers play at Huntingdon in a USA South match Tuesday.
