LaGrange is picked fifth in the West Division in the USA South Athletic Conference's women's tennis coaches 2017 preseason polls. Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
The Panthers, under coach Matt Donnett, were 9-7 overall and 6-6 in USA South matches in 2016. They return sophomore Jia Lee, who had an 11-5 record last season. Senior Denney Meigs and sophomore Liz Minick, who were both 9-7, also return.
Covenant was selected as the West Division favorite. The Scots were last spring's USA South tournament runners-up. Huntingdon was second followed by Piedmont and Agnes Scott. After the Panthers were Maryville, Salem, and Wesleyan.
Methodist is the East Division favorite. The Monarchs are the defending USA South regular season and tournament champions. N.C. Wesleyan, Meredith, and Averett rounded out the top four in the division.
The Panthers open their 2017 spring schedule Feb. 18 with a home match against Albany State.
The 2017 USA South Women's Tennis Tournament will be played April 13-15 in LaGrange, Georgia as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County. The tournament will take place both at the McCluskey Tennis Center and the LaGrange College varsity courts. The top-four teams from each division will advance to the tournament.
