Lacrosse: Late goal lifts Panthers to 14-13 win over Oglethorpe

LaGrange edged Oglethorpe 14-13 on a late goal Wednesday at Panther Field. The win was the Panthers' first of the season and and the first for Coach Nicolette Dungee.

Senior Alexis Dillard scored four goals, including the game-winner with 57 seconds remaining. Sophomore Madeline LaCavera also had four goals. Sydney Garmany added three goals, Lydia Subat had two, and Rachael Thomas 1. Kylie Reynolds had two assists, while Dillard, LaCavera, and Thomas all had one.

Junior goalkeeper Kallie Brook had 16 saves, 11 coming in the second half. She stopped Ogethorpe's Tate Davis' shot directly in front of the goal to preserve the win.

Oglethorpe led 7-5 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Panthers scored the final four goals of the half to take a 9-7 lead. Dillard got the go-ahead goal with 1:02 showing. Subat, off a pass from Reynolds scored 22 seconds later for the two-goal lead.

The Panthers never gave up the lead in the second half, but the Petrels tied the game three times, the last with three minutes remaining. The Panthers got the game-winner when Reynolds found Dillard open in front of the net. Dillard whirled and fired the shot past the Petrel goalkeeper for the score. Brook preserved the lead at the other end with her save.

The Panthers host Huntingdon on Saturday at 1 p.m.
