Women's Basketball: Season ends for Panthers in first round of USA South Tournament

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - LaGrange's season came to an end with an 87-59 loss to Maryville in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Wednesday. The Panthers finish the season 11-15, while the Scots (17-9) advanced to face Piedmont on Saturday.

"Maryville was really good tonight and unfortunately we just didn't have an answer," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "We struggled guarding them and they made a ton of shots. Mariluaren Farr and Austin Richardson had good nights on offense but we couldn't find enough scoring to match Maryville.

"I am disappointed for our players that the season has ended. They are a great group that faced a lot of adversity this season. However, they never quit working or believing in each other. They are a fun group to coach."

Farr matched her career-high with a game best 22 points. Richardson added 13 points. Rachel Hawn and Amber Hudgens each had 16 points for Maryville.

The Scots never trailed in the game. They led 27-8 after the first period and took a 45-21 lead.

The game was the final one for seniors Richardson, Jeris Johnson, Lauren Johnson, and Shenelle Toxen.

"I really hate to see the seniors end their careers," said Buchanan. They have been a very special group that have made a lot of memories for me, their teammates and our program. Jeris, Lauren, and Shenelle were three of my first recruits when I came to LaGrange. The addition of Austin two years ago made the entire group that more special."
