Women's Basketball: Panthers set school record in 76-58 win over Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. - LaGrange set a school record in a 76-58 win over Wesleyan on Wednesday in Porter Gym. The Panthers (10-13, 4-9 USA South) won their second straight and increased their winning streak to 25 over the Wolves (4-16, 0-12 USA South).

The Panthers set a new record with 13 blocked shots in the game. Jeris Johnson had four blocks, and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sarah Evans and Austin Richardson each had three blocks.

Lauren Johnson led the Panthers with 20 points. Richardson followed with 11 points, and Charley Amissah-Reyes had a season-high 10 points.

"This was a real good team win tonight," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Everyone got in the game and contributed. Rebounding was a big key and each player had at least one rebound.

"We got off to a slow start offensively but played really hard and show great effort the entire game. Our defense was very good in the third quarter, allowing only five points."

Wesleyan led 17-14 after the first quarter. The Panthers took the lead for good in the second quarter. Amissah-Reyes scored off an assist from Richardson to make it 25-24. She closed out the first half with a pair of free throws for a 41-30 halftime lead.

The Panthers held the Wolves to just five points in the third quarter to build a 53-35 lead going to the final period. The five points was the second fewest by an opponent in a quarter this season. Rust scored only four points in the second quarter in LC's 45-42 win on Nov. 18.

The Panthers close out the regular season at home against Brevard on Saturday and Berea on Sunday. It will be Senior Day on Sunday.
