Women's Basketball: Panthers outlast Agnes Scott for 52-45 USA South win

DECATUR, Ga. - LaGrange outlasted Agnes Scott on Saturday to pick up a 52-45 USA South win. The Panthers improved to 9-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

"I'm so happly for the players and coaches to get this win. Everyone has worked so hard over the last several weeks so it is nice to see the hard work get rewarded," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "The game was physical and little ugly but we kept our composure in the fourth quarter and finished on top.

"We got quality minutes off the bench tonight and that may have been the difference. I am very please to see all of our players step up and play hard for each other."

Marilauren Farr tied with Agnes Scott's Garis Grant for game honors with 14 points. Jeris Johnson scored a season-high 12 points and had eight rebounds off the bench.

"Jeris really played tough inside and had a complete game with points, rebounds, and blocked shots," said Buchanan. "She showed a lot of toughness and played like a senior post player is supposed to play."

Agnes Scott (3-19, 2-9 USA South) scored the game's first seven points. The Panthers rallied to take a 12-11 lead by the end of the first period. LC outscored the Scotties 17-6 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

The Panthers exended their lead in the third quarter. They led by as many as 18 points before taking a 46-30 lead to the final period. The Scotties cut into the lead, drawing within the final seven point margin by the end of the game.

The Panthers play at Wesleyan in a USA South game Wednesday.
