Women's Basketball: Panthers stop Agnes Scott 54-47 to pick up first USA South win

LaGrange turned back Agnes Scott 54-47 in a USA South game Tuesday in Mariotti Gym. The Panthers (6-5, 1-2 USA South) stopped a five-game losing streak and picked up their first conference win of the season.

"I was really pleased to get the win over a scrappy Agnes Scott team. I thought both teams played with a lot of heart and in the end we were victorius," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "I liked our first half effort but we got a little tired in the second half. We also didn't shoot the ball well in the second half but we found a way to get the win."

LaGrange shot 40.6 percent in the first half in building a 32-20 lead. But in the second half, the Panthers made only 22.6 percent. Agnes Scott (1-11, 0-4 USA South) took advantage and got within six points of the lead in the final period. The Panthers made enough free throws in the closing minutes to secure the win.

"We can learn from this and continue to work on things each day," said Buchanan. "We are not a finished product but there is still a lot of season to be played. I am really happy for the team and for them working so hard to get the win."

The Panthers play at Berea in a USA South game Saturday.
