MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Oglethorpe handed LaGrange its first loss of the season, downing the Panthers 67-53 at the USA South/SAA Classic on Sunday.

"We ran into a talented Oglethorpe team tonight and could not get going," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Give Oglethorpe credit for good defense and taking us out of what we wanted to do. After the first quarter, we played them even so it really came down to a slow start for us."

The Stormy Petrels never trailed in the game. They led 21-9 after the first quarter and 37-20 by halftime. The Panthers shot only 28.6 percent in the game. Austin Richardson led LC with 12 points, while Riley Chlupacek added 10.

"We have to continue to work hard in practice and keep learning from each other," Buchanan said. "We can learn a lot from this game and the loss will make us better in the long run."

The Panthers host Piedmont next Saturday in their USA South opener.
