Women's Basketball: Kelsey Walthall's career game leads Panthers past Salem 79-56

Kelsey Walthall's career game led LaGrange to a 79-56 USA South win over visiting Salem on Saturday in Mariott Gym.

Walthall, the only senior for the Panthers, was honored before the game. She then went out and scored a career-high 20 points, 16 coming in the first half as she tied her previous high.

"I was super proud of our team tonight and the way they played," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "We shot the ball really well and our defense was solid. Everyone got in the game and our bench contributed 47 points.

"Kelsey really played well and set the tone early. She has been working very hard for the last month and its always fun to see a player get rewarded for all their hard work."

The Panthers never trailed in the game. Walthall had 10 points in the first quarter as the Panthers grabbed a 22-9 lead. They led by as many as 23 in the second period, before taking a 40-22 lead into halftime.

The Panthers continued to pull away in the second half. They were up 71-40 heading to the final period, having led by as many as 33 points.

The win gave the Panthers a sweep of the season series. LC won 72-70 in the first meeting two weeks ago.

The Panthers host Piedmont on Sunday and Huntingdon on Wednesday in USA South games.
