Visiting Brevard downed LaGrange 53-47 on Friday night in Mariotti Gym. The Panthers (4-5) were playing their first game since Dec. 1.

"Tonight's game was real tough and it really hurt us having been off 13 days and our last game was Dec. 1, so it was difficult to have 29 days between games," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Give Brevard credit, they hit shots and played well. We have to learn from this and move forward. We start conference play Jan. 4 and must be a lot better."

Lauren Johnson led the Panthers with 14 points. Marilauren Farr added nine points and a team-high 13 rebounds off the bench.

Brevard's Madison Lenox led all scorers with 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Lenox had 19 points in the first half as the Tornados (5-5) led 28-23 at the break.

Johnson completed a three-point play and Kymberli Payno scored inside to tie the game at 28 early in the third period. Brevard took a 39-32 lead on a three-point play by Lynsey Crisp but the Panthers got the final five points to trail 39-37 heading to the fourth quarter.

Lenox scored the Tornados' first six points of the final stanza and a 3-pointer by Kyley Clark gave them a nine-point cushion, 48-39. Johnson drained a trey and made one of two free throws to get the Panthers within four points twice in the final minute.

The Panthers open USA South play at Huntingdon on Wednesday.
