MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange cruised by Huntingdon 72-47 in a USA South game Wednesday.
The Panthers upped their season record to 16-8 and USA South mark to 10-5 with the victory. It was the second win of the season over the Hawks (9-12, 4-10 USA South). The Panthers won 64-55 on Jan. 13 in Mariotti Gym.
The Panthers have won at least 16 games for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
"I was really proud of our team tonight. We showed a lot of resilience bouncing back from Saturday's loss," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "We seemed to click on all of our cylinders tonight, our defense was outstanding which really helped us get our offense rolling. We shot the ball well and rebounded very well.
"Huntingdon is a good team and its a tough place to play. This was my first win here since taking over the Panther program."
Huntingdon scored the game's first basket. It was the only lead for the Hawks. The Panthers scored the next nine points and led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, the Panthers continued to build their lead. They led 39-19 at halftime, as Wathall had nine of her points in the half.
The Panthers' lead swelled to 30 points by the end of the third quarter, 62-32. Coach Lee Buchanan emptied the bench in the final period as the Panthers coasted home.
The Panthers close out the regular season Saturday at Piedmont. Piedmont took a 58-51 win on Jan. 20 in Mariotti Gym.
