Women's Basketball: Panthers cruise past William Peace 66-46 for fourth straight win

LaGrange built a large halftime lead and cruised to a 66-46 USA South win over William Peace on Sunday in Mariotti Gym.

With their fourth straight win, the Panthers improved to 14-7 overall and 8-4 in the USA South. The Pacers dipped to 6-15 overall and 0-12 in the conference.

"I was very pleased with our effort today and with a quality win," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Once again our defense was very good over the 40 minutes in the game and I was more pleased with our rebounding effort today and that really set the tone of the game.

"Offensively; we shot the ball very well and our free throw shooting was excellent with only one miss. Plus, we scored in a lot of different ways. I was happy to get all 17 players in the game again today. Each player contributed in a positive way and we are showing improvement each time out."

Freshman Marilauren Farr led a balanced scoring attack for the Panthers with 12 points. Madison Barker and Kelsey Mitchell each had 10 points.

The Panthers controlled the boards, outrebounding the Pacers 51-30. Barker led the Panthers with a game-best nine rebounds.

The Panthers led 24-15 after the first period. They held the Pacers in the second quarter to 4-of-15 shooting, while making 61.5 percent of their own shots to build a 46-26 halftime lead.

Bucahan played everyone on the bench in the second half as the Panthers' lead was never threatened.

The Panthers host Covenant on Friday and Maryville on Saturday in USA South games. The team's six seniors will be honored at the Maryville game.
