FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - LaGrange shut down Methodist in the second half to take a 65-45 USA South win Wednesday.

Marilauren Farr followed Johnson with 14 points and tied with Kelsey Mitchell for the team lead with eight rebounds. Mitchell also had six assists, three blocked shots, and two steals.Madison Barker added 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

"I'm really proud of the way we played today. Methodist is a good team, especially at home, so this is a quality win for us," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Once again we played well on both ends of the court.

"Defensively, we contested all their shots and then did a good job rebounding. Offensively, we shot the ball well inside the perimeter. Our offensive execution was very good tonight and we played with high energy on both ends of the court."

The game was close for three quarters. The Panthers led 35-30 at halftime and 47-39 at the end of the third.

Johnson opened the scoring in the fourth with a trey, as the Panthers' lead hit double-digits for the first time. Methodist (10-7, 5-4 USA South) never got closer than 11 the rest of the way, making just 2-of-21 shots in the quarter.

The Panthers open up a four-game homestand this weekend. They face N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday and William Peace on Sunday in USA South games.

"We're looking forward to our next four games at home," Buchanan pointed out. "It will be great to once again be playing in front of our fans in Mariotti."
