DANVILLE, Va. - Marilauren Farr's double-double effort helped lead LaGrange to a 67-53 USA South win over Averett on Sunday.
Farr had a game and season high 15 points, while pulling down 10 rebonds to help the Panthers (11-7, 5-4 USA South) stop a three-game skid. The double-double was the third in the last four games for Farr.
"We finally put a complete game together. Our offense got going and we shot it well," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "Plus we did a good job of sharing the ball (17 assists on 23 baskets).
"On the defensive end we didn't allow any easy baskets for Averett and we did a nice job of rebounding the ball. It was nice to see each player who played score in the game."
The Panthers got a off to a slow start and trailed 12-8 after the first quarter. With Farr leading the way, the Panthers took control of the game in the second period.
The freshman scored 12 of her points in the quarter. The Panthers scored the first 11 points to take a lead they would hold the rest of the game. The Panthers shot 57.9 percent from the floor in building a 35-25 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Panthers' lead continued to grow. Jeris Johnson's jumper pushed the lead to 50-32 and they led 54-37 heading to the final period.
Kelsey Walthall's two free throws with 8:26 left gave the Panthers their largest lead, 58-37. Averett (9-8, 4-5 USA South) never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
The Panthers remain on the road Wednesday against Methodist in a USA South game. The Panthers return home next weekend to take on N.C. Wesleyan and William Peace in USA South games.
