Women's Basketball: Panthers down Mary Baldwin 84-36 to finish 3-0 week

LaGrange completed a perfect week with an 84-36 win over Mary Baldwin in a USA South game Sunday in Mariotti Gym.

The win capped a 3-0 week for the Panthers, now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in USA South play. The Panthers host conference leading Piedmont on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

"We had an excellent team effort today against Mary Baldwin," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "All 16 players who got in the game scored and that is really special.

"We talk about team basketball and its nice to see everyone contribute."

The Panthers did not have a player in double figures. Marilauren Farr and Lauren Johnson each had nine points to lead the team.

The Panthers shot 53.7 percent for the game. They held Mary Baldwin (0-15, 0-7 USA South) to 14.3 percent shooting in the second half and 23.1 percent for the game.

"It was good to see the ball go in the basket for us. We spend a lot of time on shooting so all the work is paying off," Buchanan noted. "Plus, we were very unselfish today with 21 assists on 29 baskets."

The Panthers never trailed in the game. They led 24-14 after the first quarter. Mary Baldwin's Kaybria Johnson kept her team close with 11 of her game-high 16 points.

The Panthers built a 39-22 lead by halftime. In the third quarter, the lead continued to grow as the Panthers led 65-28 heading to the final period.
