Swimming: Panther teams open 2017-18 season at Emmanuel Invitational

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. –The LaGrange swim teams opened their 2017-18 season at the Emmanuel Invitational.

The men faced Bethel (Tenn.), host Emmanuel, King (Tenn.) and Life. The Panthers defeated Life 60-34. On the women's side, LC faced Bethel, Emmanuel, King, and Life.

Sophomore David Edmondson led the Panther men in scoring. He finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:50.07 and fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 0:22.91. Edmondson also competed in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 1:07.49.

Freshman Gabriel Griffith made his collegiate debut.He swam in a number of events, including a fifth place finish in the 1000 freestyle (12:01.09), the 100 butterfly (1:08.48), and the 500 freestyle (6:09.29).

Freshman Tim Chase-Hill was also swimming in his first collegiate meet. He had a lifetime best of 1:10.84, taking more than two seconds off his previous best, in placing fifth in the 100 breaststroke. Chase-Hill had a time of 2:28.94 in the 200 individual medley and 1:12.0 in the 100 butterfly.

Freshman Makaela Woytek scored the most points on the women's side with a time of 2:30.84 in the 200 freestyle and 1:20.85 in the 100 backstroke. Woytek's time in the 100 backstroke was just four seconds off her lifetime best in the event.

Fellow freshman Destinee Tate and sophomore Jaida Rashad made their debuts for the Panthers. Tate competed in the 50 freestyle (0:40.32), 100 freestyle (1:44.33), and 100 backstroke (2:20.87) events.  Rashad swam in the 50 freestyle (0:39.72) and the 100 yard-freestyle (1:40.62).

The Panther teams travel to Ferrum, Virginia for a meet at Ferrum College on Oct. 21.
