ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange swim teams competed in the Viking Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers were joined by host Berry, Birmingham-Southern, Brenau and South Georgia.
Junior Madison Brasselle and freshman Will Scruggs were the Swimmers of the Meet for the Panthers. Brasselle swam for season best times in all of her individual events; 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle. She tied for the women's team high point with senior Christina Sabol.
Sabol had two fifth-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 1,650 freestyle events and a seventh place finish in the 100 breaststroke to tie with Brasselle. Scruggs had a time of 1:00.37 in the 100 freestyle, dropping three seconds off his previous best time.
Junior Blake Shuler swam for personal best times in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.21) and 50 freestyle (25.37) events. Freshman Evan Brasselle set personal bests in the 50 (31.29) and 100 (1:40.63) freestyle events, while senior Becky Robertson had her best time of 1:13.09 in the 100 backstroke.
Shuler, Scruggs, Mitchell Cross and Ben Fuller set season best times in the men's 200-yard freestyle and 200 medley relay events. The foursome broke the team record with a time of 4:12.70 in the 400 medley relay team event.
Cross was the men's team high point winner. Cross took first place in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200 breaststroke, which he was swimming in for the first time.
Fuller had a personal best time of 57.86 in finishing sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, while placing fifth in both the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly events. Freshman David Teske had his best time of 27.17 in the 50 freestyle.
The women's relay team of Evan Brasselle, Madison Brasselle, Robertson and Sabol had two fourth place finishes and a fifth place finish.
