Softball: Panthers stop skid with sweep of Agnes Scott

LaGrange stopped an eight-game losing streak with a sweep of visiting Agnes Scott on Thursday at the LC Softball Complex. The Panthers (15-25) won the first game 7-3, then crushed the Scotties (5-2) 16-2 in five innings in the second game to complete the sweep.

Junior outfielder Carolyn Harkness had a big day for the Panthers in the two games. She had six hits, including an inside the park home run; scored seven runs, had two RBIs, and stole six stolen bases.

LC set season-highs for runs scored and hits (17) in the second game. The Panthers put the game out of reach by scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning, sending 15 batters to the plate. Harkness was 3-for-3 with four runs, an RBI, and stole three bases. Sutton Bridges was also 3-for-3, including one of the Panthers' seven doubles, scored three times, and drove in two runs. Emily Barrs had a double included in her three hits, scored three runs, and had two RBIs. Hailey Jones had a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Sydney Hodorff drove in two runs with a double. Michaela Keel had a double and two RBIs. Chelsea Twardoski (7-10) got the win, allowing two first inning runs before shutting down the Scotties the rest of the way. At the plate, she had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

In the first game, the two teams combined for 14 errors, with the Panthers committing six. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Harkness hit a ball through the left side that reached the left center field fence. She came all the way around to score standing up. Harkness led LC's 10-hit attack with three hits. Emily Cauldwell (8-13) went the distance, allowing the three runs, but only one was earned.

The Panthers host Wesleyan on Sunday for Senior Day.
